Absence

Whenever possible ALL appointments should be made outside of the school day, during term time, allowing time to travel.  Any absence should be explained by a telephone call to the school absence line (023) 92 832642 on the first day of absence by 9.15am if a Leave Of Absence Form has not already been submitted to the school. If a message has not been received by this time, we will send you a text reminder to report the absence – this is to ensure that your child is indeed safe and with you and not in fact missing. If there is no response, we will try to contact you by telephone and failing this school staff will visit your home. We take the safety of your child very seriously.

Lateness

It is important for children to arrive at school on time. Lessons begin at the start time as detailed above. If your child is going to be late, then please contact the office (023) 92 832 642 by 09:15am and notify us of their lunch choice. If the child has missed learning opportunities they will be given the chance to catch up at some point in the day or at home if need be. Regular or persistent lateness will be queried in a meeting called by the Attendance Officer – this is a means to support you and your child in a way forward.

Leave of Absence

“Head teachers should not grant leave of absence unless there are exceptional circumstances.”

DfE, October 2014

Parents should arrange holidays outside term time. The school and the local authority do not sanction any holiday in term time except in exceptional circumstances. Requests for holiday absence must be completed on a Leave Of Absence Form and are subject to individual approval by the Headteacher. Where prior approval is not agreed then holiday absence will be recorded as unauthorised. A printable version of the form and further information can be found on our 'Attendance' page.
