    Applying For A Place

Applications for Reception are to be completed online via Portsmouth City Council's website. Our Admissions is not dealt with directly by the school, but managed by the Local Authority. Applications for a Year R space in September 2025 are now closed.

As we are now a Primary Academy, we are no longer an option for the Junior Transfer window.

    In-Year Applications

In-Year Applications can be completed at any time within the academic year, however if you wish to apply for a place for the following September, applications should be made after the May Half-Term.

    Class Sizes

The Governors are committed to a staff pupil ratio, which offers children the maximum benefits from their learning experiences and in line with DfE requirements no classes within EYFS or KS1 have more than 30 children.

    Entry to Reception Year

Parents do not have to send their child to school until the term following their child’s 5th birthday. However, most Portsmouth community and controlled infant and primary schools admit Year R pupils before the end of September, in the year in which the child has his/her 5th birthday. The school year starts on 1st September and ends 31st August.

At Langstone, our policy is to offer children whole day sessions from the September they join, although there is a slightly staggered entry in the first week to allow each group of children to settle. We group children into Autumn, Spring and Summer birthday groups so that we always remember who are the oldest and youngest children. The Headteacher may modify these groups for individual children where necessary.

It is a requirement that before starting school children must:

    • Be able to use the toilet independently (and usually be dry during the day)
    • Have some independence dressing and feeding themselves
    • Be able to communicate their needs
    • Be able to cope with the demands of a school setting
